Why are some women using the wrong contraception, it's mainly because they're not aware of their choices or it's to much hassle to try and change. How would you know if you were using the wrong contraception?
Far to many women rely on taking the same pill that they've always taken. If you're a woman and you're looking after a small baby and you're forgetting to take the pill or you take it late or get mood swings then it's worth thinking is there something that would suit me better. When you've just had a baby, using a long action method of contraception can be a better choice. You take away the daily hassle of having to remember to take a pill.
There are many different contraception methods available, and different methods suit different people at different times of their lives. You can also ask your GP, practice nurse or family planning clinic for more information about what methods of contraception are available to you (this counts for the boys as well as the girls) and what method would be best for you to use.
The contraception methods most commonly used in the USA and Western Europe are:
Barrier contraception methods
^Diaphragms and Cervical Cap
^Condoms
^Intrauterine devices (IUD)
# Chemical and hormonal contraceptives
^Oral steroid contraceptive pills
^Subdermal Contraception Implants
^Spermicidal contraception (sperm-killing contraception agents)
# Natural contraception methods
^Withdrawal (coitus interruptus)
^Periodic abstinence
# Surgical Contraception
^Female surgical sterilization
^Male surgical sterilization
When you are ordering contraception, you should also research the possible side-effects that each methods carry. Ask your GP, practice nurse or family planning clinic if you need help.
While choosing one of the contraception methods, the advantages and disadvantages of each contraception technique should be explained by the specialist, so that the woman can choose the one most suitable contraception type for herself and her partner.
